Savannah River Wildlife Refuge
Jasper Co., SC
Columbia provided civil engineering and landscape design services for a new 6000 SF Visitor Center for US Fish & Wildlife in the Savannah River Wildlife Refuge. Civil services included coordination with local, state and federal jurisdictions and utility providers; coordination of sub-consultant functions including survey, wetlands delineation and Phase I ESA; site development construction documents addressing grading, utilities, sediment and erosion control and septic tank system design; hydrology study to support detention and water quality design; entrance design in accordance with SCDOT requirements; and NPDES Notice of Intent preparation. A major landscape design criteria was to disturb as little of the natural environment as possible. Services included a landscape plan using native, drought-tolerant plants to promote a wildlife habitat and a design using sustainable methods opening the way for potential LEED® certification.
