Johnson-Dean Park

Working with the City of Norcross Public Works and the Parks & Greenspace Commission, Columbia developed a Master Plan for this 8 acre mature woodland and site of the historic water works building and city well.   Columbia led a team of consultants including an urban forester and archaeologists and conducted research on the historic district and buildings.  Working with sub-consultants and in-house surveyors, Columbia coordinated efforts to produce a Forestry Management Plan with a survey of major trees and trail system staking as well as a Phase I Archaeological Survey and Report. A  master plan challenge was the need to accommodate public access to a park embedded in a single-family residential neighborhood.  Concerns included security, privacy, fencing, hours of operation and an appropriate level of amenities. Columbia produced color presentation boards for public viewing designed to facilitate the sharing of information and ideas.  The completed Master Plan includes a concept plan with alternative options and reflects the combined vision of the Norcross community.
